Cross River Set to Host 2014 Obudu Mountain Race

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC), for the 10th Edition of the revered Obudu Mountain Race, has announced Cross River State’s readiness to host the world, come November 8, 2014, when the world class event tagged “Mountain Race of the Stars and 6th African Running Championship” would hold in the Obudu hills.

The Obudu Mountain Race which prides itself as the highest paying mountain race worldwide today, has a star prize of $50,000 each for the male and female Champions.

Details of the world championship as revealed by the Chairman of the LOC, Sir William Archibong, stated that the State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke and two former Governors of the State, have given very strong indication to participate in the VIP category of the event.

He disclosed that a total of 130 star Athletes from Russia, Great Britain, France, Mexico, Turkey, Columbia and Austria, including Benin Republic, Cameroun, Uganda, Eritrea, Kenya and host country, Nigeria have been invited to the championship.

Already, three star athletes from Eritrea: Abraham kidane Habtom, Pedro Mamu Shaku and Frezghi Tsegay, have all arrived and are looking forward to good appearance at the event.

According to details of the programme, day one of the event would feature the children, youth, media and VIP race, while day two would host the main adult race for male and female stars.
