Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barr. (Mrs.) Rosemary Effiom Archibong, has enjoined Cross Riverians to develop mutual trust between government and the governed, and deepen their sense of participatory governance for the interest of development in the state.

Mrs. Archibong made the remarks in Calabar during a talk show to mark World Development Information Day.

According to Mrs. Archibong, “As we mark World Development Information Day today, I urge us to make-alive the spirit of participatory governance and become more pro-active in the affairs of the state”.

“The administration of Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade has the passion and honesty to deliver on its mandate. Today, the areas of Agriculture, Health, Industry, amongst others, have all received tremendous boost”, she remarked.
The Information Commissioner submitted that the Governor Ben Ayade led administration is unfazed by the challenge of lean resources in the state and remains committed to actualizing its signature projects, despite unnecessary distraction from attention seekers whose only aim is to devalue and frustrate the efforts of government for their selfish interest.

“As we mark World Development Information Day today, it behooves on us to support the present administration in the state to build a society of our dream and to efficiently adduce the tenets of democracy and make life more meaningful for us all”, the information Boss stated.

She therefore challenged Cross Riverians to be constructive in their criticism and to dissuade from unnecessary anti-government activities, describing such as counter-productive.

Mrs. Archibong noted that the essence of World Development Information Day is to draw the attention of public-opinion each year to development problems and the necessity of strengthening co-operation to solve them as well as garner support thereby closing the gap between underdevelopment and development as well as foster peaceful co-existence in the society.

Also speaking, the Managing Director Hit FM Calabar, Mr. Patrick Ugbe called on media practitioners to always abide by the ethics of the profession, and cautioned against giving out unverified and unreliable information capable of inciting public outrage in a country that is already facing challenges.

On his part, the Online Publisher of www.calitown.com, Mr. Iwara Iwara, said that it is time for the state to domesticate the ideology behind the marking of World Development Information Day by the United Nations, adding that it has become imperative to train and re-train media professionals in modern news gathering and Information dissemination, amidst the danger posed by the new media.
The Representative of the Sun Newspaper, Mr. Judex Okoro, noted that Cross River is currently one of the most widely reported states in the country. He assured the State Government of the continuous support of the media in the strife for an economically viable and industrious state.
