The State Governor, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade says this year’s Carnival Calabar will be bigger, bolder and better to promote the cultural heritage in line with the State Government’s policy on sustainable environmental activities.

Senator Ayade stated this while flagging-off the 2017 first Carnival Calabar dry run in preparation for the December Carnival proper.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu maintained this year’s Carnival with the theme, “Migration” will showcase different culture of the people with a blend of other States and international communities.

He Expressed satisfaction with the representatives of the Minister of Information and Culture and the Head of Service, as well as the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture at the event.

The Governor asserted that the presence of top Federal Government functionaries will further boost the Carnival Calabar to achieve its desired benefit.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Isu Gekpe commended the State for its capacity to organize the biggest carnival in the Africam sub-region.

She pledged the Federal Government’s assistance in publicizing the tourism sites and achievements of the State to attract investors and tourists.

The Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Segun Ransanwe, who expressed delight at the sight of first monorail in the country, assured the State of the Council’s assistance to package the Carnival Calabar to attract more local and international participation for the benefit of the people.

The Chairman of the Carnival Commission, Mr. Gabe Onah maintained that Cross River State is a unique example in organizing carnival festivals in Nigeria, noting that it was the first time a sitting Minister is participating in the dry run.

High points of the 2017 Carnival Calabar dry run was the official flag-off by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu, assisted by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Mrs. Grace Isu Gekpe, the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture, members of the State Executive Council, Miss Tourism – United Nations, Ebele Gukwu, as well as the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Tina Banku Agbor.
